San Marcos, CA (January 1, 2013) – Every year during
the holidays SoCal Volleyball Club has held a canned food drive for the North
County Food Bank. Throughout the month of December, players are asked to bring
in a can per practice as part of the club’s outreach to the community program.
Families and friends were invited to watch the club athletes participate in the
Second Annual Rudolf Rally (an intra-club volleyball tournament) and were asked
to bring cans for admission. The team that brought in the most cans won a
yogurt party at Menchies in San Marcos.
This year the generous members of SoCal brought in
more that 5,000 pounds of food, breaking the club’s record of cans collected
to-date!
SoCal Directors Scott Philips and Aimee Asebrook
incorporate supporting the community in the club’s programs throughout the
year. “At SoCal, we try to foster the
spirit of community service within our kids by participating in projects that
benefit our community each season,” shares Asebrook. “We are committed to
supporting the North County Food Bank, which works with 112 Community Partner
Agencies to distribute well over 1.94 million pounds of food. They provided
over 1.5 million meals to over 243,338 individuals last year. The North County
Food Bank is near to our hearts and a genuine example of service to our
community.”
